The play deals with topics such as identity, the search for meaning and the pursuit of a better life in an absurd world in a profound and humorous way. Inspired by T. S. Eliot’s “The Waste Land”, the performance uses modern streaming technology to connect three stages in Berlin, Avignon and Milan.
The action takes place in an imaginary theatre that serves as emergency accommodation. Tiresias, a mythological figure, lives and works there as a security guard due to the difficult housing situation in Berlin. With the help of ChatGPT, he plans a trip to New York, but quickly realises that he could get into a lot of trouble there… The use of holograms reflects the blurring of the boundaries between reality and fake. Parallel stories of Minerva and Tom in Avignon and an actress and her assistant in Milan highlight the tensions between art and life.
Following the performances, there will be a transnational post-performance discussion for a small group of up to 10 audience members, including attendees from Avignon and Milan. The discussion will be held in German with simultaneous interpretation.
Interested audience members are asked to register at info@multiculturalcity.eu.
